Can anyone share any experiences on home tutoring? We have been challenged with trying to find regular home tutors who deal with special needs children. Any help / guidance will be appreciated

We have successfully tried home schooling with our 13 yr old daughter for the past 2 years and are very happy with the results. Our daughter had severe resistance to going to a school, and after having tried 3 schools over a period of 9 years, we decided one fine day to try home schooling.. and the change was dramatic – our daughter changed from a tense, stressed out and nearly depressed child to a happy, healthy girl ready to learn and absorb. And this was nothing to do with the schools (we had tried all kinds) but just to do with her personality and need. And this was really surprising as she is usually an extremely friendly child, extremely comfortable in any group, with many friends of her own.

We have a home tutor who bases her classes with her on achieving functional literacy, ife skills and on equipping her to cope with daily life on her own or with minimal help – exactly what we have been aiming at all throughout ! To keep the interaction going, she also goes to a school once a week and spends time and interacts with other children and adults.

Will be quite happy to provide more details to anyone who may be wanting to try out this with their child/group of children.

Dear all,

regarding home tutorig and home therapy,

beware there are quacks around. The best would be if you are associated by a special school take their advice and get their recommendation when you get some one home.
