What is Autism

  • Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or Autism refers is a severe disorder  of brain function covering a wide range of psychological conditions,  characterized by abnormalities in social interactions and communication, as well as severely restricted interests and highly repetitive behavior.
  • Signs of this disorder include indifference to surroundings, abnormal reactions to sensory stimuli, lack of response to others and to surroundings , resistance to touch , repetitive actions, over or uder sensitivity to pain, preference to being alone etc .

Causes of Autism

  •  The cause of autism is unknown. The disorder results from abnormalities in brain structure or function and the underlying cause usually cannot be identified.

Management of Autism

  • There is no known cure for autism nor is there a standard therapy that works for all people with autism. The condition needs to be alleviated and managed by a series of interventions and therapies such as speech, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis etc.
  • Most people with autism show developmental progress and respond to a combination of treatment and education.
